The first agenda on the meeting was to introduce ourselves and tell our stories especially on the issue of corruption. The stories revealed that corruption is real especially in the work places. The stories were based on experience and it was interesting to hear how young graduates get employed only to realise their seniors are involved in some unethical practices. The situation can be very tricky and yet we desire to remain ethical and maintain our personal integrity in the matter.Indeed the matter can be so troubling and one of the members said that when he was in such a situation he had to pray to have the senior removed from that institution, and guess what the corrupt senior officer was removed after six months. Is prayer one way of dealing with this dilemma of corruption?share your wisdom
Indeed, what we are facing at time is not controlled by our might but in the hand of God.
ReplyDeletePray for wisdom in policy maker and government leader. For their one decision could have a great impact on the entire society and directly affecting the welfare of the people.
Hi Mary,
ReplyDeleteIt is so inspiring to hear from people such as yourself that are creating real positive change in the world - especially in areas that are complex like corruption. Through my spiritual studies I have learnt that the only way to deal with complex social problems is to bring light where there is darkness. This involves trusting in ourselves, being compassionate and also communicating in an assertive and direct manner. When we let off an energy of fear this can attract fearful experiences. I feel like I live a sheltered life here in Australia. I've travelled but never lived in a place where the value of human life can be easily compromised. Congratulations to you for your passion and bravery.
Hi Mary
ReplyDeleteIt was an eye-opener hearing the experiences of those who first hand were confronted with corruption in their workplace and were in a dilemma to make a decision to either go along with it or suffer the consequences of challenging the long established practices in the workplace (including persecution by colleagues or loss of position). To receive help in such a personal situation, I believe that prayer to God followed by obedience to the flow of the Spirit is the answer. However, to have a great impact on the entire society will require the presence of a group of God's people who are built up together as the church of God in that city, and who shine as a golden lampstand to bring light into darkness (as per above comment from "littleoneliberated").
Wow! Mary your blog is wonderful. You've got followers who are equally passionate in thinking about how to curb corruption (me included). God bless you.
ReplyDeleteThanks soooooo much for your genuine and honest comments. It is amazing how we take how some societis are under the bondage of corruption. The idea is to never give up. Good always prevails. Those of you who beleive in the power of prayer i urge you to constantly be committing this issue to God in prayer. We need to seek wisdom as to what else we should do beyond prayer.
ReplyDeleteThanks to you all
Hi Mary, Prayer does realy work to fight and overcome corruption in the work place. I work in a very competitive Healthcare field in Sales and my expirence has been that when faced with unfair challenges beacuse other are corrupt and compromised, I pray to God for favour and divine connections and it works. We need to enlighten people and encourage the work place to embrase good moral practises and involve God coz this realy works. Cheers.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tony for your very encouraging words and even giving us an example of how you do it yourself. It is such comments that help me know that i am on the right track. Keep those inspirational comments coming.
ReplyDeletebye.
I like where this discussion is going. Prayer would initially seem like an unconventional way of fighting corruption if seen in the context of human-led efforts (e.g. codes of ethics, anti-graft and corruption commmissions, etc.). Often it is viewed as what people would resort to only "if all else fails."
ReplyDeleteI think a spirit-led effort through the matter of prayer is often overlooked and would be an interesting and refreshing take on anti-corruption efforts. This is a novel idea and definitely worth pursuing.
I agree with you Trishah. It is amazing that we normally start the other way around. I think the first place should be pray , then our actions that follow from the prayers are guided by the wisdom that comes from God.It is interesting that even the academic community beleive in the power of prayer. There is hope even in the middle of despair,

Hi Mary,
ReplyDeleteI always believe that prayer works in fighting corruption in the workplace. In practicality, prayer saves you/us first from participating in the corruption and its activities.
Hey Mary,
ReplyDeleteThe cause that you are following is indeed a worthy cause to pursue and I'm really glad to see many different ones coming together to provide feedback and give suggestions... :)
Well, based on what I'm studying...there is lots of ethical issues going on in the Government, employers and even the unions...really isn't just in Africa but in other countries as well...especially the recent one I've heard about China where even job seekers are conned into paying the agencies money in order to get a job...
I remember a phrase in this movie which says, "Attitude reflects Leadership"...the attitude of these people from the agencies and clearly shown how the leaders in the country are dealing with the situation...
As we all can see now how much integrity is really important in running a country...
