  1. The Story behind the origin
Before March 2010, I knew nothing about blogging and i might as well confess that blogging is a new concept to me. At first i was hesitant but now that i am used to blogging, i don’t want to ever stop. The idea of the blog was introduced to me for the first time here at University of Queensland, in a course called Community Planning, Engagement and Governance. When we attended the first lecture, we were informed that it was an assessment requirement to set up a blog to inspire other persons to bring change in an area of concern to the author of the blog. The blog is one of the tools one can utilise to reach out to persons who share similar concerns. For a long time I have been troubled by the levels of corruption in the society and discouraged by its negative effects especially on the poor. So I thought to myself the project will seek to address this problem. There are many ways of dealing with corruption, and this blog will focus on encouraging a lifestyle of integrity. This blog is open to every person and you are encouraged to post your wisdom on the issue. For the purposes of the project, the face to face network will be under the UQ Ethics and Integrity Club (which is yet to be formed). For the people not in geographical area of UQ please participate fully by regularly posting your thoughts on this issue in the blog and even join the face book Ethics and Integrity Club. This blog will be graded on 2nd June2010.I intend to retain the blog even after the grading. The journey has just begun.......You care to join me...?
Expecting to see your never ending wisdom.

  2. Hi Mary,
I think it is agreat idea to set up a blog about Ethics especially as regards corruption as this is a huge problem in many countries. I do not have much wisdom on the topic but it seems to me that is is endemic world wide. In more 'developed' countries people just get better at making it look moral whereas it is probably more obvious in 'developing' countries. I think it is rooted in greed and competitiveness - both of which are encouraged in our society. Because having and achieving over others are highly prized commodities for us, we can then very easily blurr the lines between what is moral/immoral to achieve these ends. I think discussion about these issues is good, but I fear that the people who come to the discussion table might already be those who prize ethics above competition and greed. How you bring about real change in society on this issue is a difficult question and one to which I really have no great suggestions. Personally, I believe that respect for God and his creation is a sound starting point. If people believe they have a right to more resources, position, power etc they will exploit others. But if we realise that in the sight of God we are all equally loved, valued and respected, I think it is less likely that people will take advantage of each other. I realise that some people can come to this understanding without believing in God, but I think without God in the picture, it is easier for us to think that we can take a little advantange here or there because no one is looking or will notice! Maybe work places need to have people in buddy pairs so that they can discuss difficult ethical issues as they arise and can report to each other regularly about the times when they nearly breached ethical behaviour - a bit like ethics anonymous. I think I am rambling now!
    Cheers,
    M

  3. Hi Marion,
That is a lot of wisdom in just one scoop. When i look at your comments and reflect on all the other comments (in this blog) about prayer i have realised we need more of GOD, if this problem is to ever go away. It is an interesting point how corruption is viewed from the angle of either the developing or developed societies. Indeed in this era of globalisation, it is hard to contain a particular habit in one part of the world and not have it spread its tentacles to other parts of the world. The issue of the buddy pairs is quite novel, sort of like prayer partners....?
I just love your wisdom , let it keep coming,

    cheers, mary
