As we have already seen human beings have the freedom to choose to maintain personal integrity or not. Fair enough. Then i wonder to myself, If there are many people out there who live decent honest lifestyles, what could be motivating them to live uprightly and avoid being involved in corruption. What is the driving force that encourages people to do the right thing in their daily encounters.? Please lets share these experiences with one another so that we can learn from each other.Every single individual has valuable wisdom within them and i encourage you to post your experiences and your motivations!
I am waiting..........
cheers!!!

We come from different backgrounds with a different cultural (ideological) upbringing and outlook in life. Those who come from a very strong survivalist environment may tend to be more inward looking, self-preservation may be the priority. Others grew up under a more relaxed setting but may just the same be concerned mainly about self and family.
ReplyDeleteHowever, there are those who have come to believe that service to others is service to one's self and the God he/she believes in (if ever), that service to humankind is the highest form of love, that self and family can be sacrificed for greater good of the larger society - then it is not difficult to live a life of honesty and integrity.
But there are more who, out of fear in the God they believe in, choose to stay away from the temptations of corruption. Many more were simply reared in an environment of honesty, where honesty and integrity may be of little practical value but still chosen to be upheld.
I can sense a very strong environment of honesty and integrity here in Australia but which seems to be being eroded fast by commerce and the lure of living in wealth and comfort.
The challenge is to maintain this culture of honesty. Elsewhere, the task may be to build it through the platform of education.
Cheers!
Ben
Thanks Ben, It would appear the choice to be corrupt or not depends on how one has been socialised. This then brings the issue of family to the centre of this discussion.Indeed family is the best place where values ought to be instilled into us from a very tender age. The other interesting aspect you have brought out is the issue of FEAR OF GOD.It would appear the root problem to this issue is the spiritual aspects. That if one has the love of God in their hearts, then they will most likely value integrity and honesty in their life.I then wonder what happens to those who comes from disfunctional families and those who are not spiriual....?
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteWell, thanks so much for your sharing. That is very interesting.
Good lucks,

Personally my motivation for living a life of integrity is because I believe there is a higher power aka God. I believe He is up there looking at us. There will come a day when we will all have to give an account for our actions. I would want to try my best in leading a righteous life so as to please Him. The other reason is I believe we are all in position to influence someone. Like it or not, people take each other as yark stick. If I want to live in a society of integrity, I would have to live a life of integrity myself first.
ReplyDeleteI believe that within the heart of every person, there is a will to do good. Yet, this good will is always opposed and conquered by the so-called human weakness. This human weakness is referred to as the law of sin by Apostle Paul in the Bible (Romans 8:2). I know everyone hates evil things, yet what he/she hates, this he/she does. This is a concrete picture that human beings are being oppressed by this law of sin within them.
ReplyDeleteIt is inspiring to know that many people are pursuing and desiring good governance and integrity even as myself, but how can we practically overcome this law? I will leave it to you guys...
Hi Mary
ReplyDeleteI believe that the environment that we have grown up in and current are in, has much to do with the level of our personal integrity. Personal integrity in itself is difficult to define. Man is able to rationalise all his actions, and integrity is based on each individual's benchmark according to the past environment in which he/she grew up in, and the current environment in which he/she is in (peer pressure, world trends etc). As to the question asked about what motivates me personally to maintain my integrity - in the past I would say that my upbringing had a lot to do with it as I was born into a religious Baptist family, but now I would say that it is not a matter of pursuing in my natural self to live this way (I always fail my New Year's resolutions), but rather it is the living out of another life in me - Christ as the Spirit of life dwelling in me. The Spirit of Christ is daily sanctifying, transforming and conforming me to the image of the Son of God which is as God intended, when He first created man according to His own image. This life also has a law - the law of the Spirit of life, and this is the only law powerful enough to overcome the law of sin and death which resides in our flesh.
Congratulations Mary for inspiring us to post on your blog! Have enjoyed reading your blog.
I am extremely challenged by your faith in God. If only all people can have the fear of God in their heart, what a wonderful place we would have in this world.Yet we must not give up as Jesus has overcome the world. There is the prayer corner in this blog, please feel free to share your testimonies of how God has helped you overcome challenges at your work place. You can even post a prayer to God. He appreciates and others will be encouraged by your testmonies.
ReplyDeletecheers!!
